Epic Stitching & Handmade Design Bracelet Review and Giveaway

Meet Mel Ladner, owner and designer of Epic Stitching from Calgary Canada, specializing in handcrafted Kumihimo bracelets made of a variety of different fibers, some natural/organic and allergy friendly. You can find her on Etsy.

About the Seller: I'm an ex-Magazine Art Director. I wanted to put all my creative passion into my crafting art. So now I'm an office administrator. And can put all my innovative, unique and fun ideas into my "night job". Stitching is my first love, but I have so many that come after it these days it's hard to keep track. A very close second is Kumihimo bracelets, you will find many different kinds in my store. I have been creating items since I was 12 and won two ribbons (third and merit) at two different craft competitions, in cross stitching, in Calgary last year. I adore the opportunity to put something unique and beautiful into the hands of someone who will love it.  Much my jewelry is metal-free as I have a severe metal allergy that limits what jewelry I can wear. That is why I love the fiber art Kumihimo creates, especially because I can use different fibers and organic.

About the shop: Shop for Kumihimo jewellery (Japanese braiding), beaded jewelry and finished cross stitch pieces & ornaments. All items in my shop have been handmade. Custom work is available and encouraged! If you can't quite find that right colour, fiber, bead or thread combination just let me know I do custom orders and encourage them so you get exactly what you want!  Stitched items are all stitched on linen or evenweave, no aida here. Each item will tell you if the thread is silk, overdyed, etc. Like a piece but not the colours, message me and we will work on a design, price & timeline that works for you too!  Bracelet cording is made up of lots of different materials including yarn, rayon, acrylic, silk cord, rat tail cord, bamboo and any other interesting fiber I can find. Beads used are glass or acrylic unless identified as a gemstone/semi-precious stone.

REVIEW:  Mel's bracelets are very nicely made. I will be honest and admit that I wasn't much into braided/fiber bracelets, I was more of a "metal" type of gal, however her bracelets have opened my eyes to a whole different style of bracelets! I honestly without a doubt enjoy them very much! They are super comfortable and stylish! The fact that they are handmade is even better.  I will no longer overlook these style of bracelets. You can layer and wear multiple bracelets at a time, much like you would clothes.  For little ones with small wrists, you can double wrap! :)  If large enough, you could even wear them around your ankles. My favorite would have to be the teal blue beaded bracelet, it is so pretty! This is great for those of you who have a high-sensitivity to metal!!

PROS: This is definitely a great alternative to those with metal allergies! She takes custom-orders and will craft to your choice of colors.  You get the highest and best customer service when you deal with the owner & designer directly.

CONS: None that I can really think of.  My only recommendation to the owner would be to always make sure that the metal clasps functions properly and moves freely before affixing onto the bracelet.  Mine was a bit hard to open and took some effort, I thought for sure it wasn't going to work but it eventually it loosened up and it works beautifully now.

Each bracelets was individually packaged in it's own little tule bag :)

You can add a "clasp" to your bracelet, many different styles available.

A close-up view of the beautiful beads! That is a lot of work!

Small tiny wrist of a 6-year old, you could double-wrap!

Very difficult to take a self-portrait of my hand while holding the camera! :P

You can wear multiple bracelets at a time!

Ends October 31st at 11:59 PM EST!

  15. Kumihimo is a very satisfying technique and very versatile. If you haven’t tried kumihimo yet give it a go, I use one of the foam disks designed for kumihimo but if you do a internet search you will find templates for DIY cardboard versions and there are numerous tutorials out there for various kumihimo Designer Bracelets braid.
